The Segment one class or the level 1 license is the first of three steps a teen needs to obtain before he/she could go out on the road by themselves. This class includes a total of 24 hours of class time and 6 hours of behind -the-wheel (BTW) instruction, and 4 hours of observation in the car. In class, students will watch videos and power points about driving safely and how to pass the road test. Students will also be given short quizzes every week to get them ready for the final exam. BTW instruction includes learning how to park and driving on streets and highways.
A student must be at least 14 years and 8 months of age to be eligible for the Segment 1 class.
A student with the possession of a Level 1 permit may only drive with a parent or legal guardian.
The Segment 2 class is the second step a teen needs to obtain before he/she could go out on the road by themselves. Unlike Segment 1, this class includes a total of only 6 hours of class time and no hours of BTW. In class, students will learn more information on how to drive and also have to take a final exam.
A student must possess a Level 1 permit for at least 3 months. Also, a student must have done at least 30 hours of driving including two hours of night driving with a parent or legal guardian.
With Level 2 License, a student could drive by themselves but cannot operate a vehicle between the times of 10PM and 5 AM. He/she could have these privileges only if they have passed the Segment 2 class and a road skills test (Road Test).
